updates have fallen off because I've been taking a break from my hardcore practice and doing abbreviated morning sessions. also, my student cancelled classes on Wednesday and Friday last week, and I fly to California on Monday, so I won't be teaching for a while either. it's nice to step back from things and soak up all I have learned and enjoyed over the past six months. may all have a fantastic new year. mahalo, huzzah, and aho. practice today was #TimeOfTheWest, by @TurbodogYoga. a solid class built on #Brahmari and #Backbends. many thanks - aho!
class today was part 6 of Embodying Enoughness. my right front shin has healed to the point that doing the lunges and modified Suns of the class did not seem to have injured it anew - the bruise is massive but the injury seems to be healing. taught today using Brahmeri, Forearm Balance (my student lifted up into the pose and held it with only modest support from me!), and B-Series consisting of Warrior II with Shoulder Shrugs, Warrior I, Pyramid with Achilles Tendon Stretch, and Pigeon. skipped assisting in Shavasana to show student the difference between assisted and unassisted Final Resting Pose. aho!
taught today using a long Pranayama - No Struggle Breath for at least five minutes focused on bringing breath into areas of the body normally deprived of feeling or nutrients or oxygen. then Chest Opener On The Wall, Dolphin at the Wall Both Feet Up (my student held himself up for 2 whole breaths!) 4x Suns, Eagle Warrior, & Pigeon. changing things up, avoiding stagnation, fill now the cup with the stolstice libation.
at 4:00 am, burned the sage and prayed to the Four Directions, speaking German. chanted Win-De-Ya-Ho, May All People Walk In Beauty, and Sa-Sa. practice today was What Exactly Does The Spirit Feel Like, by Heidi Sormaz. held Forearm Balance for six whole breaths! thanks Heidi for this well-cued and healing class. taught today using Lunge with Back Toes Pointed and Knee Up, 4x Suns, Uddiyana in Seated Forward Bend Legs Crossed, Dolphin at the beginning and end of class (to teach student the difference in feeling), Twisting Lunge, and Frog Lifting Through. student said that class was a good workout. huzzah!
practice today was session 6 of Embodying Enoughness by Turbodog Yoga Chicago. an hour of suns makes the yogi smile! burned sage to waken Dawn, chanted Weh Hi Ho, May All People Walk In Beauty, and danced the River Song. a healing practice on this day of the full moon. aho!
personal practice was Clear the Chakras, by Heidi Sormaz. slept poorly due to poor nutrition, barely made it through the class. taught using Tree, Reverse Warrior, Extended Warrior Variation, Laying Down Spinal Twist One Leg Straight, and Laying Down Back Traction in Baddhakonasana with Uddiyana. all in all a good day. aho.
taught using Forward Fold in Baddha Konasana, 6x Suns with Eyes Closed, Chest Opener on the Wall, Laying Down Spinal Twist One Leg Straight, and Back Traction in Baddha Konasana. personal practice was Just To Get Here by Heidi Sormaz (the one with music). despite bicycling injuries to left knee and elbow I held Forearm Balance and Handstand for many breaths and did many deep lunges. a good day, much stretching and healing thoughts. aho!
personal practice was Stuck In The Body = Stuck In The Mind, by Heidi Sormaz. Bridge - Wheel - Bridge was fantastic today as I lifted up into Wheel twice without struggle and held both times for 3 whole breath-counts. taught today despite many distractions using Uddiyana in Baddha Konasana, 6 rounds of Sun Salutations, Twisting Lunge into Pigeon, and Triangle into Pyramid with Achilles Tendon Stretch. by end of class student was sweaty and loose. aho!
practice today was session 5 of Embodying Enoughness. held Forearm Balance for 6 whole Ujjayi breaths! stirred up a bunch of emotions, thoughts and feelings swirling up out of the time fog. things are moving in this spirit of mine. aho!
